Oakstar's past- Chapter fourteen

Squirrelstar climbed onto the highrock, Tigerpelt following after her. Squirrelstar called for the clan to gather. Oakpelt looked at all of the cats as they hurried over to the highrock. “Well, Tigerpelt has told me about the Swampclan cats and how they have hurt an innocent cat, Spottedflower. We shall not fight back.” Squirrelstar said. Oakpelt became angry. The cats began to talk quietly amongst themselves. “The meeting isn’t over yet,” said Squirrelstar.  “As I was saying, we will not fight back at the moment. We do not seek revenge or vengeance. We will fight when they attack us directly.” Squirrelstar meowed. “When did you get that idea?” Whitestorm protested. “If one cat is hurt, we fight for them! Let’s attack them now!”  Silverstorm yowled. “We always fight!” Oakpelt meowed loudly. Every cat turned around, looking at him. Berryfur then said, “He’s right. We have never turned away from a serious threat.” Tigerpelt growled, “Everyone, be quiet! Meeting adjourned!”  Oakpelt looked at Tigerpelt and meowed “Who died and made you leader!?”  Tigerpelt narrowed his eyes at the comment, jumping off of the Highrock. Oakpelt stood tall in defiance, a grin on his face. “What are you going to do to me?” He asked. Tigerpelt walked up to him. “One day, you’ll be dead. And when you die, I’ll cherish that moment forever.” Oakpelt shuddered. “Only kits make stupid threats.” Oakpelt retorted.  “I’ll kill you and Squirrelstar, so I can become leader.” Oakpelt whispered.  Tigerpelt growled and walked away.

Oakpelt looked over the border. He was basically looking for some trouble. He hadn’t seen any Swampclan cats while he was there, but he had a feeling he was being watched. “Come on!” Oakpelt yowled loudly. Still, no cats came. Oakpelt waited a bit longer. One cat had walked out of the camp’s entrance. It was Swampfoot. “Get away from the border, you rat!” Swampfoot yowled. Oakpelt suddenly got an idea. “Hey!”  Swampfoot looked at Oakpelt with curiosity. “What is it?” Swampfoot asked, walking a bit closer. “Don’t be scared, I won’t bite… I need some help.” Oakpelt mewed. Swampfoot narrowed his eyes in disgust. “You need help? If you need help with dying, it’ll be a pleasure to kill you.” Swampfoot meowed. “No. Just listen. It does involve killing. Let’s say, about two cats with a very high position in the clan?”                                                                                                                Swampfoot gave Oakpelt a look filled with curiosity. “What do you mean?” The enemy warrior was slightly interested.  Oakpelt smiled. “I want to get rid of Tigerpelt and Squirrelstar, and I need an enemy clan to assist me. One cat against two, I wouldn’t succeed.”  Swampfoot looked around. “So what do you say?”

Oakpelt returned to camp. He spotted a certain two, as they came toward him. It was Bravekit   and Cinderkit. “Oh! Just the two I wanted to see!” Oakpelt growled sarcastically. “I was wondering if we could play a game together.”Bravekit mewed. Oakpelt remembered their last “game”. He had abused the kit, and hadn’t seen him until now. It seemed that Bravekit forgave him. “Go play with someone else.” Oakpelt walked away, but he felt something tug at his tail. Bravekit and Cinderkit were trying to keep him from going anywhere else. “What type of dad are you? You don’t even play with your own kit!”  Bravekit mewed. Somehow, this made Oakpelt feel bad. He then remembered that his dad died. “I never liked kits anyway.” Oakpelt hissed. “Let go of my tail.”  Bravekit and Cinderkit lifted their tiny paws away from Oakpelt’s tail. “It hurts to be hated by your own parent…” Bravekit mewed to Cinderkit. “At least your mom loves you, right?” Cinderkit mewed. “I guess.” Oakpelt listened to the two kits. He thought about the scheduled attack. He was a traitor. He looked at the Highrock, where Squirrelstar and Tigerpelt sat. They were busy talking. He suddenly wondered what they were talking about. He made his way next to the highrock to listen. “I’m sorry that we didn’t attack Swampclan for what they did to Spottedflower.” Squirrelstar said. “We need to avoid all battles, so we shall leave them be. We can’t risk lives.” Tigerpelt said. “Speaking of lives… How many do you have?”
Squirrelstar looked at her paws. “Six. Don’t worry about me, though. Other cats shall be your concern, Tigerpelt.” Tigerpelt nodded in agreement. “I am concerned about one cat, Squirrelstar.” Squirrelstar looked at the clan cats. They were busy going on patrols, returning to camp, or playing. “Who are you concerned about?”  Tigerpelt also looked at the cats. “...Oakpelt.” He meowed. The leader tried finding the brown cat, but he was nowhere to be seen, from their view of the clan. “Why?” She asked.  “There’s just something strange about him.” Tigerpelt replied. “Is that so?” Squirrelstar responded. “Tell me more.”
